Gitarista Jimmy Page (james Patrick Page) koristio ovu gitaru kada je izvodio pjesmu "Stairway To Heaven" i "The Song Remains The Same" .Zato sto ova gitara pravi deblji i topli zvuk od drugih jer je iz jednoga djela i masivnija je a drugi razlog je zato sto je mogao da prebaci sa 6 zica na 12 zica.

Četiri simbola na omotu četvrtog albuma Led Zeppelin IV, koji s lijeva na desno predstavljaju Jimmya Pagea, Johna Paula Jonesa, Johna Bonhama i Roberta Planta.

Gitara kompanije Gibson, Les Paul, je najprodavaniji model električne gitare svih vremena. Usprkos toj činjenici, mnogi vlasnici te gitare nisu svjesni da je ta gitara dobila ime po njenom izumitelju Lesteru Williamu Polfusu, briljantnome jazz gitaristi koji je bio poznat po tome da je često prepravljao svoju muzičku opremu, dajući joj tako bolje performanse od onih tvorničkih.

Počeo je eksperimentirati sa konceptom gitare punog tijela već 1920.-ih godina. Njegovi prvi pokušaji su bili jednostavni komadi drva, koje je dobi od starih vrata i stolova, na koje je pričvrstio po jedan „pickup“ i jednu željeznu žicu bendža. Nakon godina pokušaja i eksperimenata, napokon je izgradio svoj prvi ozbiljni instrument.
Napravljen krajem 1940-tih te prozvan „Panj“ („the Log“), nadobudni Les Paul je predložio tvrtci „Gibson Guitar Company“ svoj dizajn. No u „Gibson-u“ su ga odbili iz razloga što su bili uvjereni da će gitara sa punim tijelom biti preteška te da nikada neće steći popularnost među gitaristima.
Tek kada je konkurentska kompanija „Fender“ izdala gitare „Esquire“ i „Broadcaster“, koje su bile sličnog koncepta, „Gibson“ je promijenio stav i ponudio izdati gitaru. Tako je gitara „Gibson Les Paul“ izašla na tržište 1952. i postala uz „Fenderovu“ gitaru „Stratocaster“ postala ikona Rock And Rolla.
„Les Paul“ gitara se našla izvan proizvodnje samo jednom, u periodu između 1960. i 1968. godine, kada je jedan drugi dizajn, također u početku prozvan „Les Paul“ ali vrlo brzo preimenovan u „SG“, izašao na tržište.
Glavna razlika između gitara „Gibson Les Paul“ i „Fender Stratocaster“, je u tome što je „Gibsonova“ gitara trebala biti skupi, precizno izrađeni instrument za razliku od „Fenderove“ gitare koja je bila jednostavnija, te slagana od više dijelova.

Trebalo je desetak godina da priznati svjetski glazbenici uoče potencijal „Les Paula“, jer na kraju, to je najbolji način promocije. Keith Richards („Rolling Stones“), Jimmi Page („Led Zeppelin“), Eric Clapton („Cream“) su bili oduševljeni tonalnim mogućnostima modela iz 1959. godine, te gitari priskrbili milijunsku publiku diljem svijeta.

Baš taj model gitare danas može lagano dostići cijenu između 100,000 i 250,000 američkih dolara. No nema razloga za brigu. Kompanija „Gibson“ gotovo redovitim mjesečnim ritmom objavljuje nove modele gitara sa puno prihvatljivijom cijenom, no to su ipak vrlo cijenjeni instrumenti, vrhunske izrade, te većina „amaterskih“ gitarista može samo sanjati o jednoj takvoj gitari.

Grupu je osnovao  Jimmy Page 1968 nakon raspada ''Yardbirds''.Grupa se u početku zvala "The new yardbirs".Zanimljivo je da je ime "Led Zeppelin" dobila nakon što je Keith Moon,bubnjar grupe "The Who",rekao da će grupa izdržati poput olovnog cepelina u zraku.Grupu su u početku činili Jimmy Page,Robert Plant,John Bonham,Mike Scott i Chris Dreja.Međutim Dreja ubrzo napušta grupu i umjesto njega dolazi Pageov prijatelj John Paul Jones.
